sisters!
It’s so fun to watch these sisters grow!
Here’s some proofs from today’s session:
my favorite:
“Where is she???”
“There she is!”
Being a model is hard work!
(yes, it’s possible to do a session with a big “boo-boo!”)

Business headshots are quite important. It’s your chance to make a lasting impression on someone… you want that lasting impression to be a good one, right?!
It doesn’t need to be fake, smiley or cheesy - it just needs to be you!
Here’s some reasons to get a new headshot (my guidelines/suggestions):
1. if you look like a different person (in person compared to your headshot image)
2. if you changed companies
3. if you lost/gained weight or changed your look (hair is a big one)
4. if it’s been a few years since you got your headshots
5. if someone tells you “you need a new headshot”
6. if you are using a snapshot from a point & shoot camera as your headshot
7. if you wore a really “loud” outfit for your last headshots
8. if you work with a partner now and want a headshot together
9. if you used to work with a partner and now work alone
10. if you didn’t feel relaxed/comfortable at your last headshot session
Thanks to Sandi Evans for my new headshot!
(my hair is longer now, so I was following my 3rd guideline)

For those who don’t know, I have a educational and professional background in journalism.
In college, we learned about journalism law (professor Christian was a real hoot!) so we wouldn’t get in trouble while trying to do our job as journalists.
As you can imagine, journalism law overlaps with laws photographers have to follow…
Even if you are not a professional photographer, how do you know it’s ok to take a picture in public?
What defines public vs. private space?
Do you have to hand over your equipment when approached about stopping your shoot?
I was reading one of my favorite blogs, which can help you and me know our rights:
I’d encourage you to check out this website:
We’ve all been to a chain studio (myself included). For me, photography is such a special, personalized experience; I want a photographer who relates to me, cares about my family & wants to know more about me other than do I prefer 8×10s or 11×14s.
If you need to compare HL Concepts to a “chain studio” :
Sure, you will pay more with HL Concepts, but that’s for logical reasons:
Needless to say, going to a chain studio is way different than going to a private photographer.
Maybe you already knew all this, and still don’t have a problem with chain studios.
Hopefully this will help you place higher value on private studio experiences. ![]()
This big boy will turn 1 in just a couple of weeks. It’s been a blast watching him grow each month since he was born!
I’m so excited to see the changes between years 1 and 2!!!
Storyboards are a collection of images in a “collage” on one print or canvas.
These samples are storyboards for gallery wraps.
A gallery wrap is a fine art canvas printed slightly larger than the requested size, then wrapped around a wooden frame, and secured to the back. It comes ready to hang with a protective spray coat finish and you don’t frame it!
Meggan Hathaway is trying to sell this horse… named “Absolut Detail.” This is a 5×30 storyboard, gallery wrap format.
This is a 20×24 gallery wrap proof - has a vintage look, right?
This last one is a baby storyboard. A small collection of images from this baby’s 6-month portrait session.
If you like what you see or what to know more about storyboards or gallery wraps, please e-mail me. Heather.Lilly@HLConcepts.biz
This cutie pie is in the middle of the Mommy & Me series which offers 6 landmark sessions over one year: maternity, newborn, 3-month, 6-month, 9-month & 1-year portraits.
For her 6-month session, we did some pictures in Studio Lilly and some in my formal living room (the natural lighting was rockn’ that day).
We used my flower petal mat, a string of pearls, and a few other goodies for props.
she’s been working on her tummy-time!
she’s obviously a very happy, smiley baby!

Here is my favorite from K & F’s birthday portrait session!
With Easter just around the corner, I wanted to share this little dolly’s Easter Portrait session.
She was having a fussy day, so her mom & I were pleased to get these images:
